Treating and rehabilitating sport, home, leisure or work related injury
Post Acute Injuries
An acute injury is a sudden and often overwhelming injury that results from some kind of physical activity. Common acute injuries include wrist and ankle sprains, hamstring strains and shoulder impingements.
You may have spent the last couple of days resting, elevating and icing the area of pain and started taking anti-inflammatory medication, and depending on the severity of the injury it will be at least 3 days post injury that I can see you for treatment.
I will treat the post-acute stage with gentle massage to reduce swelling and start stimulating blood circulation by increasing mobilisation of the area and applying gentle friction to prevent scar tissue. If scar tissue starts to form adhesions it can cause other mobility issues.
Depending on the area I will apply Kinesiology tape to help reduce swelling as well as teaching you how to apply the tape yourself at home.
Chronic Injuries
A chronic injury is the result of prolonged, repetitive motion. Common chronic injuries include whiplash, achilles tendinitis and shin splints.
Were you injured in the past and didn’t receive any treatment for it and have now realised your mobility is poor or maybe your body has been compensating? You may have a considerable amount of scar tissue in that area which will need me to work deeper into the tissue where fibrous tissue has formed.
As the injury starts to recover, we will then look into the cause of the injury. I will assess your posture, walking gait, spine, sacrum, hips, glute firing sequence, foot positioning and many other factors.
A personal rehabilitation plan with easy to follow videos and exercises to do from home will aid recovery and prevent a reoccuring injury.
